Hong Kong has undergone challenging years, especially with the current pandemic, which has considerably impacted its citizens’ mental health well-being and brought about stress, negativity and loneliness to the community. During the covid-19 pandemic, students are required to self-learn at home and many office workers have to work from home. Meanwhile, some people have undergone pay cut or even become unemployed amid the economic downturn. All these have inevitably triggered potential mental health problems and risks in our society, in which relevant counselling and support have become much more crucial.
With the development of technology, social media is reckoned as the first point of outreach for people to connect with communities comprised of people experiencing similar issues or seek resources for support. In view of the challenges we are facing, Facebook Hong Kong has launched the #HearForYou Campaign to support local non-profit organizations (NPOs) that are advocating society to address mental health issues. Our NPO partners include Agent of Change, Caritas - Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, St. James' Settlement, The Samaritans Hong Kong and HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. Through a one-stop online resources hub to connect people in need by providing easy access to health and wellness resources, online assessment, and immediate support on messenger bots, the campaign aims at reaching out to those in need and raising public awareness on mental health issues.
We will arrange a series of online and community events on various topics, such as exploring how we can prevent and relieve mental health problems via virtual reality technology. For latest updates and resources, please stay tuned to our website and the official page of Facebook Hong Kong.
